4T RECYCLING PROCESS
PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT
We at 4T are actively engaged in the recycling process as an essential part of protecting our environment. 4T now operate 5 different systems.
Local council recycling collection is used for easily recycled items.
Accepted waste includes most paper and cardboards, some plastic items (not plastic bags), most metal items e.g. food tins and aluminium cans and glass bottles and jars.
Here are our top recycling tips for those easy to recycle items:
- Take lids off plastic bottles and glass items.
- Place items loose in the bin, not in plastic bags.
- Rinse containers.
- Make sure aerosol cans are empty.
- Include only household items (e.g. from the kitchen, bathroom and laundry).
Containers for Change is a collection program that allows you to earn cash back when eligible containers are returned.
These include, aluminium, glass, paper and steel and liquid paperboard beverage containers between 150ml and 3L.
Any suitable containers should taken to local waste transfer station to be sorted, where cash back is issued.
Terracycle is Australia’s Zero Waste Box recycling platform used for our hard-to-recycle materials; those that cannot be recycled through the Council pick up service.
Terracycle waste includes E-waste, eye wear, fabrics & clothing, plastic cards, shipping materials, coffee capsules and coffee bags.
However, it does not include organics, broken glass, pesticides and hazardous materials.
REDcycle is Australia’s specialised soft plastics recycling platform used to recycle our soft plastics that cannot be recycled using the Council pick up service.
These plastics can be scrunched into a ball and so can become stuck in rotating parts in typical recycling facilities and therefore require specialised treatment.
As a result of their material, hazardous nature or level of soilage some items cannot be recycled. At present these items are disposed of in the general waste bin.
At 4T, as well as having our bins set up in the workshop we are also trialling separation in the field using in-car recycle bins. These allow us to adhere to our recycling policy where ever we might be working.
When it comes to recycling very few people are 100% squeaky clean but by implementing these recycling systems in the work place, 4T hope that we might be able to make an impact in keeping our planet alive.
